INTRODUCTION

I have recently renovated my garage by converting it into 2 bedrooms for my sons.  Between the two rooms is a "Chillin' Room" where the boys will watch television, play PlayStation, and listen to music.  I am looking for an interior decorator to help me find the best paint, wallpaper, carpet, tile, and furniture.  Your names have been given to me as prospective decorators.  As my interior decorators, I need you to choose colors, designs, styles, & products that will be most appropriate for boys that are 5 & 9 years old.  I will need a list of your decisions along with a detailed price list.  Please hurry as my sons are eagerly waiting to move in!!!

 THE TASK

As my prospective interior decorators, you will need to examine the Scale Drawing in order to calculate the perimeter of the rooms and the area.  Then you will need to choose products that you think would be best for my two sons and with the best prices for me.  You will need to do the following to each of the rooms:

carpet/tile the floor

paint and/or wallpaper the walls and ceiling

choose furniture and accessories for decorating the rooms (including windows).

Remember, I will be looking for the appropriateness of the items you choose and the price.  I want to get the very best deal possible. You will be required to give me a proposal of you suggestions that includes a detailed price list for all items with a description and picture.  The price list must include unit prices, quantity needed, total prices, tax, and any applicable shipping & handling charges.   The way you will put you proposal together is your decision.  For example, you can do a collage, a written report, a drawing, a commercial, a PowerPoint presentation, a music video, or a newspaper article.  Be creative and have fun!!!

The Process

In order to complete this task you will need to complete each of the steps listed below.

Look at the SCALE DRAWING then fill in the DATA SHEET by calculating the perimeter of each room and the area of each wall, ceiling, and floor.  Remember, when doing these calculations you will need to take into consideration  any doors and windows.  Make sure you keep these dimensions handy (print your data sheet), because you will need them when figuring the amount of supplies you will need.

Research items & prices. (Look back at the TASK area for information on what needs to be done).  You will need to use the list of links below and also check out local stores such as Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and Sherwin-Williams.

Choose the products you want to include in your proposal.  Make sure you list where you chose the suggested items.

Put you proposal together. Make sure your proposal includes the following:

·         all room dimensions

·          prices, descriptions, & pictures of all items, and

·         places to purchase the items.

Prepare a 5 –10 minute presentation about your project.  Teach the class some of the basics of what you have learned and design a quick problem for a volunteer to practice (Don’t pick a goof ball).  DO NOT READ BORING PARAGRAPHS TO THE CLASS!  Discuss it like you know what you are talking about!  Use several visual aids to help the class understand the topic.

2) If you could go back and re-do this WebQuest, what would you do differently to make your proposal better?

You should be very proud of yourself as I know that I am proud of each of you!!!
